How many there actually are
Seventeen, each with its own page. That number was decided by counting what could be covered honestly rather than by picking a round figure — two candidates could not be, and they appear as paragraphs elsewhere instead of thin pages.
A good half of them are free: the palace square, the cathedral, the Japanese garden, the harbour quays, the beach, Fort Antoine and the whole street circuit.
The ones people miss
The Japanese garden — free, properly made, and five minutes from the busiest part of Monte-Carlo. Sainte-Dévote — the national saint's chapel in a ravine under a railway viaduct, two minutes from the station. Fort Antoine — a free terrace at the tip of the rock.
