The garden is planted on a near-vertical rock face on the western edge of the country, and the plants — agaves, aloes, barrel cacti, euphorbias — do well because the cliff faces south and stores heat.
Underneath it is the Grotte de l'Observatoire, a limestone cave with stalactites and evidence of prehistoric occupation. It is the only cave in Europe where the temperature rises as you descend.
The view back over the whole principality from the paths is the widest you will get.
It is a steep site with a lot of steps. The bus up is a better idea than the walk if the heat is serious.
