Worth knowingPerformances in summer only

It was built in the early 1700s as part of the rock's defences, damaged in the Second World War, and rebuilt in the 1950s as a small amphitheatre inside the old walls.

In summer it is used for open-air performances; the rest of the year it is a quiet terrace at the eastern tip of Monaco-Ville with the sea on three sides.

The walk out to it along the cliff edge from the palace is short and almost always empty.

Free, five minutes from the palace, and one of the few places on the rock where you can sit down without buying something.
