It opened in 1985 on the made ground at Fontvieille, and its design answers the country's basic problem: there is no room. So the pitch sits on a deck above a multi-storey car park, with sports halls, offices and a school built into the structure underneath.
The row of nine arches along the front is the recognisable part and is visible from most of Fontvieille.
It is home to the principality's football club and hosts athletics; guided tours run when the building is not in use.
Go for the engineering rather than the sport. A stadium stacked on top of a car park on land that was sea sixty years ago is Monaco's whole approach in one building.
