Worth knowing—

Sainte Dévote is Monaco's patron. The story is that her body, set adrift after her martyrdom in Corsica, was guided ashore here by a dove; the chapel marks the landing place.

It sits in the bottom of a narrow valley with the railway crossing overhead and the street circuit passing the door — the first corner of the race is named after her.

On 26 January a boat is burned in front of the chapel in her honour, followed by a procession and fireworks. It is the country's own festival rather than an event put on for visitors.

It is a two-minute detour from the station and almost nobody makes it.
