The beach, and that it is made
Larvotto is the public beach — free, sheltered behind breakwaters, on reclaimed ground, with sand that was brought in. It is small and it is the only real beach in the country, so in July and August it fills.
The Japanese garden is across the road and is empty when the beach is not.
The sea as subject
The Oceanographic Museum exists because a prince spent his life studying the Mediterranean, and it is the best single argument that this country is about water rather than money.
Fort Antoine at the tip of the rock has the sea on three sides and costs nothing.
